Bicycle with books on fender
A quarterly online journal of masterful fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and art.

Deadlines

We publish work four times a year: January, April, July and October. All submissions are considered on a rolling basis. Please allow 3-5 weeks for a response.

General

  1. In order to keep our submissions nicely organized and reduce our own carbon footprint, we only accept submissions through our on-line submission manager, which you can find here. Our modest reading fee of $2 contributes to our annual poetry contest.
  2. All submissions should be typed in a 12-point font and double-spaced.
  3. In the top left corner, please include your name and contact information.
  4. We do not accept previously published work. However, we do accept simultaneous submissions. Please be courteous and notify us immediately if your work has been accepted elsewhere.
  5. We welcome multiple submissions! Please understand, however, that each submission fee of $2 covers only 3-5 poems, one story or essay, or one work of art. You may submit in more than one genre, but please submit these materials separately.

Fiction and Non-Fiction

  1. Please send short stories, novel excerpts, or essays up to 5,000 words (or about ten pages). Please indicate the title in the title field.
  2. We are interested in work that surprises us. We're especially fond of flash fiction, unconventional narratives, and distinctive writing, but we'll accept whatever's fresh and nicely crafted.
  3. If you are sending us a chapter from your novel, please ensure that it is a self-contained excerpt with a distinct and recognizable narrative. Your novel in its entirety might be awesome, but please remember, we have no context!

Poetry

  1. We accept submissions of up to five poems at once. These must be in a single file / attachment. Please indicate all titles in the title field, and do not attempt to send multiple files / attachments through our submission form.
  2. We love poetry in all shapes and flavors, but we tend to shy away from the syrupy stuff. We like sentiment, but we also appreciate precision of language.

Art

  1. Please send us one drawing, painting, sketch, photograph or other image per submission.
  2. We like everything, especially when it tells a story (or when we can imagine one).
